Deen tries to break the inn room door:
d20+3-3 = 15 SUCCESS

The door swings open, the lock broken.
The room is very untidy. There are cloaths spread all aross the floor and the bed, and sheets of parchment are strewn all over the place. The wardrobe door is sitting ajar, and the foot locker at the end of the bed is open.

Ameron is talking with the injured villager:

w-well, Lord Artemis is the governor of these lands. He takes a tithe of our crops in exchange for his protection. I heard Reginald say he was comming here to stop them from reaching our village, but it seems hes too late, isn't he?

Deen: d20+2-3 = 4 FAIL.
Veinlash: d20 -1 = 15 SUCCESS
Kura Shinpai: d20+4-1 = 14 FAIL

Veinlash spots the corner of a Mage's robe under a pile of cloaths, and several small bags of foul smelling objets that are probably spell components. It is probably fair to assume the guest in this room is a mage of some sort.

You can try to look in detail with a search check, but that would take more time (like about an hour)

who? why the lizards of course. After they burned deepglade and sieged swamphold fort we knew it was only a matter of time before they came here. The crier said we didn't need to leave 'cos the lord was comming to stop them, but I suppose it shows what he knows.

well, I'll just make the searching a little more active.
First search checks:
Deen: d20+0-3 = -1
Veinlash: d20+3 = 8
Kura Shinpai: d20+6-1 = 13

Deen seems to be making more of a mess than anything else.
Kura brings Veinlash some notes bound together in a leather cover. They seem to detail the properties of a very poweful spell known as "Teleportation Circle". It is a spell that will create a portal between two distant places through which people may pass. It seems to require some time and ritual scatering of Amber dust to cast. These notes will help you identify a teleportation circle, but provide insufficient information to create one yourself.

Your characters don't know they rolled bad. That kind of thinking is called meta gaming and is frowned upon. In this case, I said "First search check" because I intend to make more. I was originaly going to summerise your hour of searching in one roll at the end, but seen as you have nothing to do until Lord Yu posts, I figured I'd break it up into several (slightly harder) checks. That was the first 10 minuets.

Proped up in the back of the wardrobe, Veinlash discovers a rather nice quarter-staff. Engraved on the shaft is the name "Uinen Draconis"
