I am quite/ish surprised that even though many of you were having heated conversation about how the american healthcare sucks, but when a solution based on facts is brought up, few of you are interested.

Seems like a buch of sensible suggestions for improvement but I think most people's quarms with US healthcare was the pay-per-use and consequently "Can't pay? Fuck off" nature. (I don't recall in detail)

It's economically and personally efficient but if you have no / limited capital you are screwed.

That's just the dog eat dog nature of US society and these suggestions do not change that - they just make the healthcare system more accessible by lowering the amount of money you may need to afford the system.

But this will solve most people's problems with healthcare, only the very minute population would actually have no money whatsoever, and have no way of obtaining it.

Well, there's only one way to see how far you can get with reducing the government's involvment. . . .take it out, see what happens, still good, take it out some more. . .

real life is almost impossible to predict. .. . .experiment!

but, yes, this does not solve the problem for those, mind you, no cash probably means ur wasting it all on drugs, or you're shit out of luck, in which case, life sucks, and, frankly, social services have trouble reaching these ppl, one way or the other Confused

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122990539802425297.html

Quote:
Regarding "The Obama Health-Care Express," (Review & Outlook, Dec. 9): The focus only on extending health-care coverage ignores the serious shortage of primary-care physicians. Physicians are increasingly going into specialties and the ranks of generalists, the essential first line diagnosticians and caregivers, are shrinking. Without more physicians, those receiving the extended insurance will not be able to find health-care providers.

Quote:
Businesses expecting to save money under President-elect Barack Obama's universal health-care plan are going to be in for a rude awakening. President-elect Obama's plan includes an employer mandate in which businesses must either pay their employee health insurance or else pay into a government fund to cover the uninsured.

A similar mandate has already been in place in Massachusetts for two years. As health costs there have skyrocketed, the state government has asked for more and more "contributions" from businesses. During this financial crisis, the last thing America needs is yet more economic burdens on the businessmen who create jobs and prosperity.

P.s. You don't need to bump the thread that clearly everyone is avoiding

A) That seems to be a problem everywhere, part of it is caused by lack of initiative to get immigrants "aprroved" for working as physicians. The other part is people just being too lazy to get more doctors.

And, from the doctors perspective, "general" is probably avoid by most doctors since other doctors look down upon them (it happens in engineering. . .apparently, if you're not Chemical/Mechanical, no one cares)

B) They need the money from somewhere. . . . businesses do seem like the logical place to get the $$$

The problem is in the licensing of doctors. There are far more medical graduates than there are allowed to be hired

Problem is, you are discouraging businesses.
This is meddeling in the market again, and it would not be desired, if history is of any indication. Business would certainly not be stationary and take no action about this, they would definetly make up for the cost one way or the other, either through increased prices, lower wages, etc.

I never said it was a good idea, governments are strangely greedy. . . .

Alberta for example, hiked up royalties on oil and gas companies. . .which MAJORLY discouraged them from opening more operations. . . .

But is Public Health care necessary? That was the question in discussion. Not just health care.
