Sendal, can you add or take away from this as per your world of D&D that we are playing?

Thank you in advance!

From: apostlyte
To: Ronin
Subject: Re: D&D

Granted, its been a while since I played, and Sendal may have his own take on this...

Usually, you are a part of an order, or one of your lizardman peers took you under his wing and made you a keeper of the earth, aka druid.

Okay, in that training, you would have learned about the swamp or where ever your tribe was. Plants (every type), animals (every one), the water (the ecology there of, springs and where they come from, etc), the earth in general (minerals, soil, rock, real basic geology...). Then of course as you grew older, you would start to put all this together and understand the balance.

Your peer will either be in touch with other druids of other areas or possibly a self contained order just among the various tribes of lizardmen. They will be able to get together and talk about things like you would find in an almanac. They will influence the weather to minor degrees in drought and also combat blight of plants or crops, and also adress any problems with rabid animals, etc. They are the source definitively for "where do I plant my crops" or "What and when do I plant?"

As you get more powerful, you are able to communicate with the earth in its various facets. You will soon also be able to shapeshift into various sizes of animals (lvl 3 I think...)!

Okay, dont know how much of that you already knew, but there it is.

Now, for your question. You are able to recognize areas of power earth wise. You should also be able to consecrate a particular area if it is fantastic representation of nature, ie an ancient grove of trees with a well spring in the center. Stonehenge is a representation of a druidic circle. Evil druids can do the same thing, I guess as can clerics. Except they desecrate.

Having said all that, this is where my memory gets foggy. You can make a place sacred or resanctify an area via rituals. Prayers to mother earth or whatever godd/ess represents earth in our little world are a great start.

And, I am going to post this in our discussion thread and see what Sendal wants to add to this, because he can tell you if he wants you to develop a backstory of how you became a druid and what orders exist in your area of which you live. He can also clarify exactly what needs to be done ritual wise to reclaim an area for good.

Hope that helps!

I like to leave some of the world creation in the hands of my players.

I have ideas about how I think Deen's Druid culture works, as well as how John's monestary (if he is from a monestary that is) but they are not solid, complete, or by any means set in stone.

A character's backround is virtualy entirely up to the player, and that includes inventing any organisations, nations, enemies, allies ect that they want. I won't argue with any such details that any of you want to invent, except in 2 cases:

1: It interferes with my planned plot in some catastrophic way (though I am flexable even with this one)

2: It makes the character vastly more powerful than it should.

My take on D&D religion, which includes Druids:

Gods are from your humble perspective all-knowing. Everyone knows the gods exist, though there is some debate whether certain less powerful "Gods" should actualy be casified as such. By less powerful I mean will actualy have to take some action to kill you rather than just think it.

A God's power is deffined by the number of followers they have. A god's followers usualy have several different groups, each worshiping in their own way. The god apreciates them all, as they all increase the god's power. Someone who doesn't know the proper way to worship a certain god, but who still makes an effort, is also apreciated.

People can have a single patron deity, or revear several at the same time, but it is extreamly rare to worship all of them, because many are directly opposed (eg Mystra and Shar)

So basicly, Ronin's account of how his Druid circle works is pefectly correct, in fact for all intents and purposes, you should assume he knows more about the subject than I do. This does not neccisarily extend to all druids everywhere though of course.

As for abilities he will eventualy gain, the online SRD contains much of the core rules for anyone wishing to read up on them.

http://www.d20srd.org/

Druid

Bear in mind, I have modified a few things. the animal companion is now statless. Its one of the worst ideas ever to give every druid a pet that is stronger than the average fighter ALL BY ITSELF.

Also: Deen has humanoid hitdice and a level adjust, because he is a powerful race (lizardman) so he isn't as high in character levels as everyone else is, and never will be. His powerlevel is in theory about the same, however. (to be honest, he is probably slightly stronger at the moment)

John can start screwing with the pentagram, you can start praying for good god/ess energy to nullify the bad god/ess energy that is over this area? best I can offer.

Basicly, what I'm saying is make it up. If Deen is an expert in Druidic rituals of this particular region, then whatever you do is right.

Pray to the godess, do a silly Indian dance, draw pictures on the wall, it doesn't matter. Its the effort that counts.

You know this is a godess of pacifism and nature, so sacrificing a goat probably wouldn't be apreciated, but most anything in reason is fine.

Damascus is a LN god that finds knowledge and wisdom favorable above all. If there is nothing written about a topic, he impresses upon his followers to rectify the problem. He cares not about how this knowledge is collected or stored, simply that his followers discover that which he has already discovered about the universe. His interest is limited to the things of the natural world. If man created it and it soley exists due to man, then he abhors the subject. He finds most social/political conventions to be ways for man to lie eloquently.

Damascus finds the natural world as the source for all wisdom, being as that anything and everything that can be done is tied into the natural world in some way.

Damascus dislikes bloodshed and the lust a man can have for battle. Issues are to be dealt with peacefully if it can be helped. Damascus is not niave however in the ways of creation and recognizes that there needs to be a means for perserving the natural order when it is threatened. A follower of Damascus will never use an edged or piercing weapon. The favored weapon of Damascus is the quarterstaff and flail.

Damascus has many diffrent followers. They range in profession from academia to priest/ess. He does not embrace warriors or paladins or knights. His only policing force if you can call it one are his monestaries of monks that forgo all riches and possesion so that they may be pure and neutral in their administration of justice.

***Will add more later as I come up with it Razz***

Eldath

But remember, regional faiths may vary, though it will likely be related closely to this theme.

I'm not sure if this is neccisarily Deen's patron deity. It might be, but either way he would likely respect her as a nature godess.

This is a list of all known Deities

I would interpret Damascas as a regional name or aspect of one of these. Probably Oghma or Deneir.

Deneir works. Especially considering its a created diety as opposed to a production one. There is enough info lacking from his description to allow my spin on Damascus to fit in nicely, I think.

Thanks for the list, Sendal!

Message to Rosur:

Seen as your not replying to the PM, I'm going to take over playing Veinlash soon. Let me know if you want to keep him, or if you would like to keep playing with a new character. (I could build that dual wielding warrior you were thinking about if you like)
